Congratulations to our students who have been awarded scholarships for the 2019-2020 school year!

Karen Colangelo Scholarship – Awarded to Alexia Boccuzzi who will be attending University of Pennsylvania this fall. She was also the student speaker at our Hall of Fame event this past November. Some notable items to share: Lexi has been involved with JA since the second grade, when her mom volunteered in her classroom. Lexi led the High School Heroes initiative at Westhill High School for the past three years, recruiting over 20 other high school students to join her at Roxbury Elementary School. Congratulations Lexi and good luck!

Raymond Lavietes Scholarship – Awarded to Gabby Papuga, a Derby High School graduate, who will be attending Bay Path University this fall. Gabby participated in our High School Heroes program, teaching elementary students life skills such as; needs vs. wants, and taxes. Gabby learned through her volunteer experience that she would like to become a teacher. She has learned classroom management techniques, as well as public speaking, which was a challenge prior to her experience as a JA volunteer.

John Rayner Scholarship – Awarded to Arshriya Koul, a rising senior at Masuk High School in Monroe. Arshriya participated in JA’s 10th Annual Business Challenge, an interactive competition where students from 15 area high schools compete against each other in a competitive business simulation. Students learn about various business functions, including; marketing, R&D, financial analysis, risk, and supply chain management. Arshriya will receive her scholarship once she has selected a college or university to attend in the 2021-22 school year.
